 Emotions without a filter

I am a self taught contemporary figurative artist working primarily in oil. My paintings explore the intensity of human emotion through surreal and often unsettling imagery, using vivid color and playful compositions to create a tension between beauty and unease.

About

I paint emotions that are difficult to talk about. My work explores fear, anger, vulnerability, desire, discomfort, and the strange intensity of being human. I use the figurative form as a way to make those internal experiences visible.

I am interested in the contradiction between the beautiful and the disturbing, and in the uneasy feeling that emerges when the two exist together.Color is deeply influenced by my experiences living across Haiti, Bolivia, Colombia, Indonesia, and El Salvador, as well as my fascination with the vibrant visual language of Latin American art, particularly Mexican art. Frida Kahlo and Salvador Dalí have also been important influences in the way I think about the relationship between personal experience, symbolism, and surreal imagery.

I work primarily in oil and am entirely self taught. Painting has become my form of visual journaling. Each canvas holds something from a particular period of my life: an emotion, a memory, a fear, a moment of anger, or something I wasn't quite ready to put into words.
